What is the difference between yellow, white, and rose gold?
The metal alloys that are mixed with pure gold to strengthen it for jewellery can also modify the resulting colour, producing yellow, white, and pink/rose gold. White gold usually contains a combination of 90% pure gold and an alloy of silver, platinum or zinc, before being finished with rhodium plating to give it a mirror white brilliance. Red/Pink/Rose gold includes varying levels of copper alloy mixed with pure gold to provide its unique colour.
What do the numbers on my jewellery mean?
We provide the hallmark stamp for purity on our solid Gold & Silver merchandise, most often following the millesimal grades for purity. On our solid gold jewelley, 750 denotes 18K gold, 917 denotes 22K gold. On our silver jewellery, 925 denotes the grade for Sterling Silver.
How is 18K different from 24K?
Pure (999 fine) gold is too soft for daily wear, so it is alloyed with metals like silver, copper, nickel, and zinc to make it stronger for jewellery pieces. Karat (K), as such, is the measure of pure gold in the metal. The higher the karat, the higher the percentage of pure gold in the metal.
- 24K gold is the purest form of gold, which is too soft for jewellery in most cases.
- 18K (750 fineness) is an alloy containing 75% pure gold.
- 14K (580 fineness) is an exceptionally hard gold and frequently used in clasps or hooks
